Five Crowns features a unique double deck with 116 cards: two sets of cards in five suits (stars, hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades) and six jokers. The game is designed for 2 to 7 players and over eleven rounds. The goal is to obtain the lowest score by the end of the eleventh round.
Gameplay – Five Crowns.
Each round starts with players being dealt several cards corresponding to the round number: for example, three cards in the first round, four cards in the second, and so on, up to 13 cards in the final round of Five Crowns.
In each round, one suit is wild, starting with 3s in the first round, 4s in the second, and so on, up to Kings in the eleventh round.
Players take turns drawing a card from the deck or the discard pile and discarding a card. The aim is to form “books” (three or more cards of the same rank) or “runs” (three or more cards in sequence of the same suit), with the ability to use wild cards to replace any missing cards.
The round ends when one player goes out by discarding their last card after forming their hand into books, runs, or combinations of both. All other players then have one last turn to improve their hands.
Scores are calculated based on the cards left unplayed in each player’s hand, with each card’s face value in points (jokers are 50, wilds are 20, and others are as marked).
